Hair density and what it means for products
Density refers to how many strands you have per square inch of scalp, not how thick each strand is. The two are often confused, but they affect your routine in quite different ways.
Density describes the number of hairs on your scalp, while strand width (fine, medium, coarse) describes the diameter of individual hairs. Both matter, but they influence different aspects of your routine.
High density hair holds styles well and can handle heavier products without looking weighed down. It may require more product to achieve even coverage. Drying time is longer.
Low density hair can look flat or limp if products are too heavy. Lightweight formulas, volumising ingredients, and careful application at the root (rather than midshaft) tend to work better.
When choosing products, consider density alongside strand width. Fine, high-density hair is a common combination that needs lightweight products applied in quantity. Coarse, low-density hair may need richer products used sparingly.
